With gratitude

My post today is about gratitude. Awhile back, I had a crazy idea. Crazy but simple really--I wanted to fight to help end modern slavery. I wanted to help eradicate human trafficking. How to start? What to do? Where to go? How to go about it all? These and many questions pervaded my thoughts for quite some time. Luckily, I did finally figure out my own personal answers.

I decided to join HELP International and to move to Thailand this summer.

This meant a lieu of different things: it meant quitting a great job, it meant I would no longer have a source of income, it meant I was taking a chance, that I was, to put it mildly, acting a little crazy. But somehow I didn't feel crazy. I felt like, for the first time in a long time, I was moving towards something that was going to impact my entire life. Towards something so big that is was going to be LIFE CHANGING.

To accomplish this task, I had to do something terrifying--I had to ask people for help. Financially that is. Fundraising for my project has been a truly remarkable experience, and I have come to believe, through my successes, in the very real goodness of ordinary people. "After everything else, it is people who change the world" has become real to me, and my faith in humankind has grown so much that I am filled with love for the people of the world.

So it is with gratitude that I write this post, and in complete humility. Gratitude for those who have shown me, in whatever way they can, their support for me and what I am doing. Whether that be through words of encouragement, through financial backing, or through kind acts of friendship and service. I owe you all my everything.

And they 'went out doing good', all the days of their lives...
